Officials plan to build mental health facility in Butler County

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) -Butler County officials are trying to get the funds to build a mental health treatment center in the area.

Executive Director of the Butler County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Services Board Dr. Scott Rasmus says that the treatment center would allow patients to stay and get the treatment they need for as long as they need.

Dr. Rasmus says they have been trying to put this plan together since late 2021, but the problem is getting the funds to sustain the long-term services.

Butler County officials are looking at examples in similar-sized communities throughout the country.

“One of the models, the model out of Arizona, has a sort of a tool kit that estimates by your population size and things like that what you may need. For us, it came up about 30 beds,” Dr. Rasmus said. “I’ve done a number of focus groups on this. There were eight that I started last summer. There is an advisory committee that’s working with me now to better refine this.”

It is unclear where in Butler County is the facility will be.
