JACKSON, MI – Six people and one organization have been honored at the Center for Family Health’s eighth annual Advocacy Awards event.
The Thursday, May 5 event at the Cascades Manor House in Jackson recognized community leaders, dedicated citizens and CFH staff members who demonstrate outstanding commitment to health care advocacy and social justice.
“This is an annual event that we look forward to”, said Terry Langston, Director of Communications and Advocacy. “We appreciate the work that community members and our staff do to help make health care more accessible. The individuals being recognized this year do just that,” Terry Langston, CFH director of communications and advocacy said.
This year’s winners include:
Denny Litos, formerly with the Michigan Primary Care Association, who is receiving the Georgia Fojtasek Health Advocacy Award in honor of his advocacy efforts to safeguard Medicaid, the 340B pharmacy program and community health centers throughout Michigan.
The Wellness Team of First United Methodist Church, which is receiving the Corporate or Organizational Health Advocacy Award for its efforts in supporting children’s health in the Jackson community, including the Back-to-School program.
Hillary Bennett, account executive at Print-Tech, who is receiving the CFH Ambassador award for her many hours of volunteering and support.
Brad Flory, former MLive/Jackson Citizen Patriot reporter, who is receiving the Social Justice & Health Advocacy Champion award for his involvement in serving the community through nonprofit work and reporting on important health issues.
Erin Tomb, CFH dental/front office manager, who is receiving the Health Advocacy Award for her work in honoring the center’s mission of “opening the doors to health care for all.”
Mike Littlejohn, a CFH certified medical assistant, who is receiving the Exemplary Customer Service Award for his care in helping all patients feel welcome, comfortable and safe.
Dr. Navira Rizwan, a CFH family medicine physician, who is receiving the Exemplary Service Award for his instrumental role in improving the health of the center’s patients with chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension.
“We are excited to recognize all award recipients.” Sara Benedetto, CFH interim CEO/COO, said in a statement. “Their contributions have a positive impact on the patients we serve and our community at large. We congratulate and applaud them for all they do to make a difference.”
