In this video from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Michael J. Alaia, MD, FAAOS, spoke about the efficacy of an orally absorbed CBD tablet for postoperative pain relief following rotator cuff surgery.
“I think this is going to put us on an upward trajectory in terms of patient care and satisfaction. Really, the sky is the limit when it comes down to this, because [common analgesics] all act in different pain pathways,” Alaia said. “If we can add something to the neuromodulatory pathway, like CBD, cannabidiol, etc., then hopefully our patients are going to do better after surgery or dealing with chronic pain.”
“The next thing we are looking at is osteoarthritis,” Alaia added. “We are going to look at synovial biomarkers, with plans to continue looking at this regarding ACL reconstruction and other surgical procedures,” he concluded.
