Operation Okae Molao targets Randfontein CBD | Randfontein Herald


West Rand — The West Rand District Police arrested 143 suspects during the Operation Okae Molao conducted in in Randfontein CBD on Thursday May 12.

According to Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere, the West Rand District Police spokesperson, suspects were arrested for the following offences:

– Two for possession of a stolen motor vehicle
– Two for possession of drugs
– Two for possession of unlicensed firearm and dangerous weapons
– Seven for possession of and dealing in dagga
– Five for illegal liquor trading
– One for dealing in illicit cosmetic products
– Two for selling illicit cigarettes
– Four for murder and attempted murder
– Two for armed robbery
– One for rape
– 25 for sexual assault and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm
– Four for contravention of protection order
– One for culpable homicide
– One for drunken driving
– Six for fraud
– Six for housebreaking and theft
– Three for intimidation
– Three for malicious damage to property
– One for reckless and/ or negligent driving
– 26 undocumented foreign nationals

“The main targets of the operation were vehicle hijackers, tracing wanted suspects, tracing stolen motor vehicles, searching for unlicensed firearms, intercepting the transportation of prohibited goods, stolen property, and compliance with the Road Traffic Act,” Mogwere said.

During the operation 16 traffic fines to the value of R16 000 were issued, a Toyota Quantum was impounded for further investigations, and gold-bearing material and illegal mining equipment were confiscated.

“Members of the community are urged to report crime on the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or use the SMS number 32211; alternatively use the My SAPS app which can be downloaded from any smartphone,” Mogwere added.

All arrested suspects will appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.
