A former pub in Adelaide’s CBD has been badly damaged by a fire that police say may have been deliberately lit.
Key points:
- Emergency services were called to a fire in Wright Street about 1am
- Police say it may have been arson
- They now believe a separate fire on Hanson Road was not deliberately lit
Police and fire crews were called to the fire at the former Hotel Wright Street just before 1am, when it was “fully ablaze”, police Senior Constable Kate Dawson said.
“The building was extensively damaged,” she said.
“Police believe that the fire may have been deliberately lit and we’ve asked our fire case investigators to attend the scene to assist.
“We’re just asking anybody with any information that may assist the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
A separate fire destroyed a fruit stop in Woodville Gardens last night.
Police say the fire was not suspicious after early questioning whether it, too, may have been deliberately lit.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene about 7:45pm, finding the Hanson Road business ablaze, with smoke also drifting into the adjoining pharmacy.
Extensive damage was caused to the building.
