Bengaluru: After filling up potholes and asphalting a few stretches in the central business district, BBMP has now decided to expedite road repair work in the city’s peripheral areas. The condition of roads has worsened in 110 villages coming under 25 wards of the five outer zones.
BBMP chief commissioner Gaurav Gupta (in pic) on Wednesday inspected road-related work in Yelahanka area and directed officials to complete it in two months.
Most of the roads in peripheral areas are virtually non-motorable, thanks to road-cutting and digging work taken up by different agencies.
“Wherever BWSSB has finished work, it is BBMP’s responsibility to fix the road. Orders had been given to complete restoration work within 45-60 days. I visited the zones to inspect the progress and in some places, work has been completed,” Gupta added.
He visited Ananthapura in Yelahanka constituency and directed officials to ensure the roads are made motorable. He instructed his team to finish asphalting major stretches and restore 110 village roads within the time frame.
Gupta said roads and pavements dug up by BWSSB for work related to drinking water and drainage should be restored on priority so that citizens are not inconvenienced.
The water board has dug up 151km of roads for water and drainage-related work, of which BBMP has restored 60km so far, an executive engineer said.
