The Lafitte Greenway is operated in partnership with NORD, which offers a variety of activities on the Greenway, including Movies in the Park and Easter Eggstravaganza and Halloween Spooktacular.

Easter Eggstravaganza, to be held April 9, is a family-friendly Easter egg hunts featuring the Easter Bunny, face painting, space walks and field games as well as eggs filled with candy and prizes.

“NORD is happy to continue its partnership with Friends of Lafitte Greenway,” said NORD CEO Larry Barabino Jr.  “We look forward to another great season of free outdoor fitness classes along the Lafitte Greenway.”

Thousands of participants from the Greenway’s neighborhoods and beyond have enjoyed the free, outdoor fitness classes. This is the seventh year that Friends of Lafitte Greenway has offered the Get Fit the Greenway series. The organization reached 2,148 participants with fitness classes on the Greenway in 2021.

“By offering no-cost community classes, we get an opportunity to teach more community members how to thoughtfully use the FitLot Outdoor Fitness Park and fully benefit from the space as a no barrier public health resource.” said Adam Mejerson, Executive Director of FitLot.

There are even more fitness classes offered on the Greenway. NORD provides free fitness classes through FitNOLA at the Greenway Station 436 N. Norman C. Francis Parkway, the former Brake Tag Motor Vehicle Inspection Station that opened as a public pavilion in 2022. See here to learn about the FitNOLA schedule.

I loved getting to see the community come together to work out and enjoy the beautiful greenway!,” said Bianca a 2021 Get Fit the Greenway participant. “It’s part of what a healthy society and community looks like, and I am grateful that we have these opportunities in New Orleans on the Greenway.”

Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle, a towel, and a yoga mat for yoga class. More information about the series is available at lafittegreenway.org/getfit.
