Fitness center proposed for Greenwich Park office building would be first Barry’s Bootcamp in CT

GREENWICH — A new fitness center could be coming to the west end of town.

Barry’s Bootcamp is an international chain of workout facilities that specializes in “high-intensity interval workouts,” according to the organization.

A proposal has been submitted at Town Hall to open the fitness facility at Building 5 of the Greenwich Office Park off Weaver Street and West Putnam Avenue. It would be the first Barry’s Bootcamp operation in Connecticut, with a number of other locations operating in the New York area.

The plan submitted to the town Planning & Zoning Commission would convert office space to the fitness club, and a 1,650-square-foot addition is also proposed. According to the application, the fitness center would open early and operate into the late night — from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday — with shorter hours on weekends.

About eight to 12 group fitness classes would be offered a day, and Barry’s Bootcamp said three to five employees would be working at any given time. The classes have a capacity for 45 clients, while about 20 clients in a class is the typical number, the application states.

The proposal for the fitness center said there is more than enough parking at the Greenwich Office Park location to accommodate the operation.
