Dialysis center proposed in Greenwich to convert fitness center, hair salon on West Putnam Ave.

GREENWICH — A new dialysis center for patients needing treatment for kidney ailments could be coming to Greenwich.

An application to convert space at a retail and office building at 495 West Putnam Ave. into a dialysis center has been submitted to the town Planning and Zoning Commission.

Greenwich Dialysis/Fresenius Medical Care would operate the site. At present, there are no dialysis centers for out-patients operating in Greenwich, according to medical informational databases, and the nearest ones are in Port Chester, N.Y. and Stamford.

The proposal would convert the first floor of the building, where a fitness center and a hair salon are housed, into the dialysis center. A Subway sandwich shop would remain on the first floor, according to the application.

The property is owned by the Cortese family and Cortese Real Estate, the applicant on the project.

The attorney representing the proposal, Tom Heagney, said no modifications to the exterior of the building are required. The proposal only needs site-plan approval from the planning commission.

Specifics about the operation are set to be put forward when the plan is reviewed by the commission.

The building is served with 44 parking spaces, and no new spaces are called for.
