The next stage in the revival of Sydney’s once-unloved southern city precinct has moved a step closer with the appointment of Candalepas Associates as the architect of a new $700 million-plus skyscraper on the doorstep of the Atlassian-anchored tech hub.
Developer Deicorp said the building, spanning 55 storeys, with 168 high-rise luxury apartments and four floors of offices on the lower level, would be the next step in the revitalisation of the neglected area overlooking the south-west corner of Hyde Park.
Located on the corner of Liverpool and Castlereagh Streets, it is being developed on the site of the Polding Centre, previously owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. The older property was sold last year by the church for more than $200 million.
Candalepas Associates principal Angelo Candalepas said he “relished” the opportunity to deliver a landmark building near Hyde Park.
He said the design takes advantage of the sweeping harbour views for the luxury apartments and also includes the A-grade office space, a communal floor, ground floor retail, entry foyers and a courtyard garden with trees.
“It is a building with dramatic foyers and an oasis garden for the residents. These two facilities link to provide a sense of wellness and nature in the centre of the city,” Mr Candalepas said.
Deicorp founder and chairman Fouad Deiri said while it is still pending approval from the Central Sydney Planning Committee, work will start with Candalepas and a range of other consultants with the goal to submit a development application to the City of Sydney by July.
“We are delighted that on our signature project in the CBD, Mr Candalepas and his team will be helping deliver a stunning new building that will be a new landmark in the city,” Mr Deiri said.
Deicorp is a specialist Sydney construction and development company that has been operating for more than two decades. It is currently delivering about 3000 apartments in key Sydney locations and has delivered projects in more than 40 Sydney suburbs.
