Police are hunting for three men and a woman is recovering in hospital after she allegedly had a chemical thrown in her face as she waited outside a restaurant in Haymarket on Good Friday.

The woman, 32, was waiting outside a Dixon Street restaurant around 11.15pm on Friday when a black hatchback stopped in front of her, police say.

“ Three men wearing facemasks exited the vehicle, with one man throwing an unknown substance in the woman’s face, before getting back in the vehicle and driving off,” police said in a statement on Saturday morning.

The substance is believed to be acid.

The woman was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with facial injuries, and police established a crime scene.

It is not yet known whether it was a targeted or random attack on the woman.

More to come.
