Perisic hands Spurs fitness boost after calf injury in final Inter Milan game

New Tottenham signing Ivan Perisic is expected to be fit or very close to being fit in time for the first day of pre-season training, football.london understands. Signing a two-year deal with Spurs that will commence from the start of July after the expiration of his Inter Milan contract, the Croatian international unfortunately picked up an injury in his final appearance for the Nerazzurri.

Starting in his 35th Serie A game of the season on the final day against Sampdoria, Perisic opened the scoring in the 49th minute but was substituted off ten minutes later due to a calf problem. The 33-year-old, who was seen using crutches on the pitch after the game, underwent an MRI scan last Tuesday and Inter Milan’s website confirmed that the experienced player had “a pulled right medial gastrocnemius”.

Amid question marks over when exactly Perisic will be back to full fitness, football.london understands that Spurs’ new man is expected to be fit or very close to being fit for when Spurs’ pre-season training commences. As is the case ahead of pre-season training with international football set to get underway this week, Tottenham’s international players are due to be back in time for the club’s tour of South Korea.

Fans will be desperate to get a glimpse of Perisic in Spurs colours for the first time when the Lilywhites take on Team K-League in Seoul on Wednesday, July 13. Spanish side Sevilla, who former Spurs man Erik Lamela currently plays for, are the team’s next opponents three days later when they go head-to-head at the Suwon World Cup Stadium.

Perisic’s move to N17 has seen him reunited with his former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte having played for him as a left wing-back for the Italian giants. A key position in his system with the wing-backs expected to chip in with plenty of goals and assists, Perisic registered ten goals and nine assists for Inter in 2021/22.

The Croatian will also bring a wealth of experience to Tottenham, something Conte has been crying out for at the club as he looks to take them to the next level. Playing an integral role in Croatia’s run to the 2018 World Cup final, Perisic has made more than 650 appearances so far in his career for club and country and has won two Bundesliga titles, Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League.
