Owen Hargreaves says Kane now looks ‘fitter’ at Tottenham under Conte

Owen Hargreaves has claimed that the fitness levels of Tottenham’s Harry Kane under Antonio Conte have changed.

The former England midfielder added that Kane ‘didn’t look fit’ before Conte arrived, but the Spurs hitman is now ‘fitter’, as a result of what his manager is demanding, as he told Premier League Productions (16/04/22 at 11:40 am).

When Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at Hotspur way, in terms of running distance, the north London were bottom of the Premier League table.

But that quickly changed once their new Italian coach became comfortable in his seat, as Spurs shot right to the top of the charts.

Also, at the start of the campaign, there was well-documented talk about Kane’s future, which didn’t help matters, but all of that, for now, has been put behind everyone.

Nonetheless, this is what Hargreaves made of Kane and the 28-year-old’s fitness levels this season.

“Don’t you think with Kane, he now looks fitter?!” said Hargreaves. “At the start of the season, for me, he didn’t look fit.

“Now, with Conte, he doesn’t take any prisoners. It’s down to his management and training.

“With the Italian managers, everything is about intensity, isn’t it?! They want them to work hard and train hard. The diet.

“Fabio Capello came in at England, he took away all the sweets, no butter and no bread. And I am sure that’s going to be the exact same for Kane.”

Just like Jose Mourinho and Kane last season, the Englishman has now struck up another fierce partnership with another trophy-laden coach.

Mourinho was booted out by Daniel Levy before he could possibly help Spurs win a trophy, including a first for Kane.

And now, whilst Spurs had an off-day during their defeat against Brighton yesterday, they will be hoping Conte brings some of that magic to the club.

A player of Kane’s quality and standing in football simply can’t go the entirety of his career without a trophy.

But, with Conte in the dugout, this is the best chance he has of doing so in Tottenham colours.
