MS state trooper’s gun, badge stolen from car at local fitness center, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department (MPD) is investigating a break-in of cars at a local Esporta Fitness.

Officers responded to the 7600 block of Polo Grounds Boulevard for theft of a motor vehicle at the Esporta Fitness just before 3 p.m. on May 20.

When officers arrived, police were told by the victim that he parked his 2014 Dodge Charger and went into the gym at about 11 a.m. A few hours later, the victim said he observed his front driver’s side door pop open as he was about to leave, a report said.

According to a police report, the victim said he checked his car and his black Glock 21 45 caliber handgun, Mississippi State Trooper badge, Mississippi State Trooper ID, wallet, Bank Plus debit card, Walmart credit card and $150 cash were missing.

Another victim who went into the gym and left the gym about the same time also had multiple items stolen from their car, the report said.

Officers processed the scene and collected prints.

Officers were able to view the surveillance videos from the gym at about 1 p.m. where a white four-door Chevy Silverado pulls alongside the driver’s side of the white Dodge Charger.

According to police, a man exits from the driver’s side and enters the Dodge Charger, then the man pulls away and pulls next to the other victim’s car. The man then enters that car before leaving the scene.
