City Of Action Offers Fitness And Fun For All

The City of Riverbank’s Parks and Recreation Department has released the Spring/Summer 2022 Activity Guide that has a variety of special events, summer camps, classes, and aquatics for all ages. With Recreation Supervisor Tony Lemonds celebrating his one-year anniversary with the City this month in March, he has been seasoned with a full year of events.

“I will be celebrating one year on March 12,” said Lemonds. “I definitely am entering this year a lot more confident now that I have done a full cycle of events. I am looking forward to make the preexisting events and classes greater this year.”

The City has two fitness classes, Yoga and Pound Fitness for those that are 18 years old and older. Yoga Instructor Jamila is holding classes every Tuesday at 7 p.m. for an hour session at the Community Center for $10. Pound Fit Instructor Lorie Avila holds classes at the Community Center on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Cardozo Gym.

For seniors 55 years old and older there is a Zumba Gold class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Community Center.

New this year the Recreation Department will host an Eggstravaganza on the River for all ages on April 9 with two sessions at Jacob Myers Park. Each session of the Easter Egg hunt held at the walking trail will have a thousand eggs for the gathering. The event is free and at the end of the hunt participants can get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny.

Teens will have the opportunity to engage in a new Glow in the Dark Egg hunt at Castleberg Park on April 16 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The hunt is free to teens ages 13 to 17 where some lucky teens may receive gift card prizes.

Starting on May 7 the summer concert series will be held every Saturday at Jacob Myers Park. The concerts are free to the public and there will be vendors on hand including food vendors.

“I am looking forward to preparing staff this spring to perform their best for the summer season, seeing the smiling faces of the campers and to opening the pool for the community on June 1,” stated Lemonds.

Tryouts for the Riverbank Barracuda Swim Team will be held on Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m.

Recreational Swim will open to the public on Wednesday, June 1 and swim lessons will begin on June 6.

“The summer day camps have been tweaked a bit, which we have seen an increase in participation since then,” added Lemonds. “We will be having guitar lessons coming soon and hopefully a new dance instructor.”

Summer Camps will be offered in June with mini camps for ages 3 to 5 years old and weeklong camps for ages 6 to 12 years old. The camp will be canceled if they do not meet the minimum number of participants.
